I really like the idea of a wiki textbook that is collaboratively written and shared around the world. I believe that this will be the future of texts. This is an example of what this may look like: http://brokenworld.wikispaces.com/A+Broken+World
This example is not perfect and has some errors but it lays a nice ground work for the next revisions
I also like the idea of the Wiki. One of the biggest things we are working in our laptop program is collaboration and contribution. We introduced Wikis with our 5th graders and there seemed to be more care about what was submitted because everyone in the class was dependent on the information.
We also are trying blogging this year with our teachers. Our goal is that like the del.icio.us our teachers will post information that will continue to connect outside of the classroom and bring the global collaboration that will be needed for future jobs.
Julene, our school's awesome director of technology, introduced he faculty to ning.com last week. On Monday (two days ago) I invited my Spanish students to join my site: permiso.ning.com They know that the purpose is to practice Spanish only. When I discern that they have earned a reward, I drop a low quiz grade and give them a 20:20 instead. We have 74 members already and students are using their language skills. They refer to this as 'facebook in Spanish' . If you want to know more, just ask! Also, anyone wishing to practice Spanish with us is welcome!
