In a recent online publication titled "Technology in Education Integration: People not Laptops," written by Ron Canuel who is the Director General of Eastern Townships School Board in Quebec, Canada, the focus is on the teachers and students, and not the technology. Bravo!!

While those of us involved in successful laptop programs recognize the power and impact that laptops can have on student learning (and on teachers' teaching), we are always looking for resources to support our programs. And, we are constantly being asked to justify the program even after several years of implementation. Research support has been slow and tedious, and much of it is anecdotal.
I recently discovered the "K-12 Computing… Continue

In your reply, please indicate if you have Macs or Windows laptops at your school, then list the top apps your students use (not web-based). Do NOT include Movie Maker on Windows machines or iLife on Macs as those come pre-installed. Share the ones you… Continue

There's been a ton of buzz the past few months about netbooks. A lot of educators are hoping they'll cause a decrease in the overall price of hardware, but I'm curious how many of us are considering them seriously for school computing - 1:1, on carts, for teachers, etc. I thought I could get a better idea of how other educators see netbooks impacting their programs if I did my own survey.

One of the focal points of the 2008 iSummit was environmentalism and being a "green" school. The Gillispie School in La Jolla has installed solar panels on their campus to conserve energy. What initiatives has your campus taken in this direction?

What a start to the school year. We introduced 60 additional laptops in our school and my favorite comment so far was the third grader who told his teacher that it was "unfair" that the laptops were for the old kids. If I had my way of unlimited resources and time, I would have every kid at SRS with their own laptop- I would be amazed at the possibilities.
I believe that the implications for the adoption of social networks in a 1:1 school are great. I have struggled with the specifics of the student assignments and if this environment improves the quality of education. So I spent a few minutes searching and found the following resources.
